American Mural designed and painted two interior murals for Futago Udon in Boston’s Fenway neighborhood. The main wall turns a bowl of udon into a small landscape: Mount Fuji rises from the broth beside a curling wave, an egg, fish cake, and cherry blossoms.

Across the room, a second mural moves closer to the same imagined world, with a red torii gate, waves, and flowering branches. Warm reds, pinks, and golds connect the two walls and give the dining room a consistent visual identity.

We built the murals in layers, starting with the broad color shapes and then hand-painting the fine red outlines and smaller details. The large bowl overlooks the dining room, while the opposite wall carries the imagery through the rest of the space. Together, the two pieces make the restaurant feel like one continuous scene rather than two separate decorations.
