American Mural designed and painted this koi mural for Kenzoku Mazesoba in Boston’s Fenway neighborhood. The restaurant sits next door to Futago Udon and has the same owner. We painted two murals for Futago in 2018.
Overlapping koi move across a deep blue field, with white linework tying the composition together. At the client’s request, we applied gold leaf to selected scales and water shapes. The metallic areas shift in brightness as the light changes.
Futago Udon fed us every day while we painted! Both restaurants are almost always busy, and we are glad the murals have become part of spaces people return to.
