GrOH! Playrooms led the design for this private activity room in Kremmling, Colorado, west of Denver. The room is one part of a much larger playroom, and the landscape turns it into its own small world of wildflowers, a grove of trees, a winding trail, and two mountains based on peaks visible from the client’s property.
Our three-person crew painted the mural primarily with spray paint over a base coat of interior acrylic. Rather than rely on the standard spray pattern alone, we made a library of stencils and layered linework, soft transitions, grass, and small floral marks. The mix makes it difficult to tell exactly how the surface was built, which gives the landscape some of its magic. A negative-air filtration system vented through a window continually pulled fumes out of the room while we worked.
To complete the immersive feel, we carried the meadow across the baseboards, door trim, and the door itself. The painted door became our favorite detail. There is something especially magical about opening a door that has become part of the landscape, and we are very happy with how the whole room came together.
