American Mural recreated artist Sarah Nguyen’s mural for Sugidama Soba’s Somerville location. Nguyen painted the original with spray paint at the restaurant’s previous space. We rebuilt the design by hand in acrylic-latex paint, preserving its indigo palette and patterns inspired by Japanese tilework.
The mural runs above a row of seats and faces the open kitchen, where the chefs see it while they work. Waves, blossoms, and geometric patterns stretch across the long dining-room wall.
We also hand-painted the Sugidama logo, enclosing it in a broad blue swirl and adding fine touches of gold leaf to the noodles beneath the mountain.
